One Part Gin and Seren Spain - Live at Union Square

Live at Union Square presents another night of live original Australian music with

ONE PART GIN:

One Part Gin play dark folk music that is thickly splattered with blood, grit and gloom. Melodies and pain collide as you follow in the forlorn footsteps of fools. Sam and Holly will light their lanterns and lead you into the shadows where narratives of a hopeless family tree interweave. Can you find hope when all seems lost? What lengths would you go to to prove your love? Drink up, tear up, grab a whiskey and press play…

SEREN SPAIN:

Seren moved to Australia after growing up in England. She travelled frequently, especially to Ireland and France, and changed schools often, which sparked her love for languages and different cultures. As a child in England, she was a bit of a tomboy and a whimsical class clown, growing up on “The Av” in her hometown, often exploring the streets with her Walkman providing the score.

During her teens, Seren learned violin from a London Philharmonic Orchestra musician who became her tutor, using a gift of a violin from her Irish grandfather. She also plays viola, cello, and piano, and writes songs using guitar, although she humbly avoids calling herself a guitarist. She views her singing voice as another instrument.

Her musical influences are diverse. As a kid, she bought Metal tapes to impress the skater lads in her hood and she was inspired by Imogen Heap & Broken Social Scene. These days she cites an eclectic mix of influences, Imogen Heap/Frou Frou, RufusWainwright, The Smiths, The Shins, Tracy Chapman, Nick Drake, Bob Dylan, TheSugarcubes, Townes Van Zandt, Emily Haines, Brendan Canning & Kevin Drew, Broken Social Scene, Rick Rubin, Ry Cuming/RY X, Frank Wiedemann, SufjanStevens, Tame Impala, Gustav Holz, Eric Satie, Clarence Clarity, Caribou, JackWhite, Cyndi Lauper, St. Vincent, Marnie Stern, Dolly Parton, CarolinePolachek, Anne Briggs, Karen Dalton, Doechii and Lil Simz.

Seren is set to unveil new material in early October and November 2024, leading up to the release of her highly anticipated debut EP in February 2025.

Seren is joined by multi instrumentalist Mal Beveridge.
