Celebrate Victorian Law Week at the Fitzroy Town Hall Reading Room with a keynote presentation from Professor Marcia Langton AO.
Join us to celebrate Victorian Law Week throughout Fitzroy Library and Fitzroy Town Hall with a one day event The Law and Our Community from 11:00am-4:00pm. There will be free workshops and community information stalls presented by Fitzroy Legal Service and Neighbourhood Justice Centre. In The Reading Room, hear keynote presentations from Professor Marcia Langton AO and Jordan van den Berg.
Professor Marcia Langton will discuss her recent book, Law: The Way of the Ancestors. In this work, Marcia Langton and co-author Aaron Corn show how Indigenous law has enabled people to survive and thrive in Australia for more than 2000 generations. The book challenges readers to consider how Indigenous law can inspire new ways forward in the face of global crises. Law is culture, and culture is law. Indigenous law defines what it is to be human.
