Lily Gladstone leads us on a wild, multiversal journey traversing timelines and animation styles.
The Arizona Territory, circa 1873. With the whole town distracted by a musical performance in the town centre, an opportunistic labourer decides to rob the local outfitter, but things go wrong and he's sentenced to prison.
Watching him from afar, an omniscient observer and his cat interrogate the goings on, looking for the one true timeline.
Curator's Note
Blending twelve different animation styles ranging from rotoscoping to oil paints, Geoff Marslett's most recent feature film is a wild visual ride with a unique logic, one that unlocks a core of madness that permeates throughout and transcends the film's aesthetic. The film decodes and rewrites the rules of the Western genre. It even rewrites itself.
The only thing wilder than the film's look is its eclectic ensemble cast. Lily Gladstone is joined by David Arquette, Howe Gelb, Neko Case and French New Wave star Anna Karina who sadly passed away before the film was released.
