Peggy Lego - teaching handwriting in the classroom

Handwriting plays a key role in children's literacy and has a significant impact on broader learning at school. Research also has identified that handwriting is a predictor of later academic success, yet a common challenge faced by many educators, is how and when do we teach children how to handwrite.

The Peggy Lego program is a well used tool, designed to teach children the fundamental skills and strokes required for successful handwriting. This approach can be simple to implement into the classroom, with great success. Berry Johnston of Lil' Peeps Occupational Therapy for Kids has 20 years experience as an OT, working with children and within the school setting and shares her expertise in supporting the skills requried for handwriting. Currently Berry is researching the efficacy of the Peggy Lego program as part of her PhD with Curtin University.
